UK to make electric car charges compulsory in new buildings from 2022
By Euronews with AFPThe UK has a rough plan to integrate car charges into every new building after 2022. There are around 145, 000 charging ports per year will be installed, this is done with the goal of reducing pollution put into their air by vehicles. Vehicles are a huge primary contributor to todays emission rating, reducing the amount of gas driven cars on the road would aid in the race against pollution. A member of the COP26 climate change summit told business leaders that he is calling for charging ports to be mandatory in new homes, supermarkets, and workplaces in England. This is a direct progression towards eliminating new sales of diesel and petrol cars in the United Kingdom from 2030. It is said in the article that the UK wants to lead by example and make it so more electric cars are on the roads. There are currently around 25,000 charging ports in and around Britan. However, the competition and markets authority regulator estimates more than 10 times this amount is needed in order to reach the goal.

How changing to electronic vehicles/chargers will help our ecological footprint
One of the topics from class that I think that this concept would connect with would be our ecological footprint. The general meaning of our ecological footprint would be the measure of how fast we consume resources and generate waste. Compared to how fast nature can absorb our waste and generate new resources. Ever since gas powered vehicles have been a main source of transportation, we have knowingly put more and more pollution into the air. With the integration of these electric vehicles/chargers we are helping the environment and making up for the damage we have already done. "EVs also serve as a greener alternative to gas or diesel vehicles. By eliminating exhaust, they can reduce a fleet’s greenhouse gas emissions." With less gas emissions being put out by people traveling in their vehicles, we can start to work on trying to undo the damage we have already done to the environment.
Ever since I heard about electric vehicles I have always been super interested in them. Although I don't drive an electric car myself I think it would be pretty cool to. For me one of the most important things about getting an EV is that it would reduce global emissions. They are pretty new on the market and haven't been around for all that long so not many people know too much about them. My dad was talking about getting a fully electric vehicle around a year ago and I remember there were a bunch of things to take into consideration when buying one. A couple of them are convenience, affordability, sustainability and of course a fun factor. I think that one of the main reasons that he didn't end up getting an electric car is because there aren't enough of them out there currently. He didn't want to have to worry about the things that came with the car such as charging availability and the fact that he would be the only one driving an electric car on the road.
I found your blog post very interesting and informative. This seems like a great idea to try and reduce their pollution and get people to drive more electric cars. You can find a gas station on every street to fill up your diesel car, but finding charging ports for electric cars is more difficult and less convenient. Although this won't make them reach the goal that they set, it is a good start and building block. I agree with all the points you brought up in your last paragraph. Most people would want to drive an electric car and do their part to lessen our ecological footprint. But there are many things that need to be taken into consideration before doing so. Availability of the electric car chargers is a key factor. The more of those that there are, the more electric cars we will probably see as a result.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with this idea, this is very smart and i feel like the environment will prosper even more with electric cars. I know how bad people hate pumping gas and it takes so ,much time but with this idea, the community will be happy. Some people may think "oh charging your car will take longer", they may be right but with electric cars means the reducing of pollution. Instead of having gas stations on every other block, there should also be some charging ports for the cars. I've always thought having more and more electric cars was a good thing for us people, my friend has a Tesla and he tells me all the time "this thing is awesome", so i hope we see more and more of these things as time goes on.
ReplyDeleteSome people may not like this idea and also realized that all of us grew up on regular cars that gas is needed, so i do feel like completely throwing away cars that need gas will be a bad idea but having more electric cars than ones that need gas will better our community.
